The United Nations Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUC) recently awarded GIS Dynamics a four (4) month contract to develop and construct 1:50,000 scale base mapping of the Democratic Republic of Congo. MONUC sought a consultant to be onsite, manage the MONUC staff for the base mapping from start to finish and deliver a comprehensive manual to replicate work provided. The project’s objectives include, but are not limited to: developing a 1:50,000 scale mapping project from start to finish using U.S. Military Vector Map (VMAP), Level 2 standards; utilize MONUC GIS resources; instruct MONUC staff whenever necessary to complete different steps of the project; provide a comprehensive manual to replicate work provided. ERDAS Imagine and ArcGIS Feature Analyst are also being utilized to extract features from Spot 5 satellite imagery.
Standard operating procedures and manuals for the mapping process to train future United Nations mission staff, contractors and military staff in the production of 1:50,000 scale geographic features for United Nations military strategic planning and mission efforts in the DRC. April 21, 2008 - GIS Dynamics Offers Mapping Service to the Commercial Real Estate Council of Greater Cincinnati
Members of the Commercial Real Estate Council of Greater Cincinnati (CRECGC) now have exclusive access to an online site location mapping service. When evaluating a potential site location, important components such as demographics, business data, competition, and distance modeling must be considered.
GIS Dynamics has designed an online site location research service for CRECGC members. The service deliverables include a set of three maps which are produced based on a particular location input by members. These maps are designed to help commercial board members visualize the area around a site of interest. For each location, they enable members to understand the requested demographics, drive distances from a given point, and competition mapping.
Members of the board can request and purchase maps online via a link on CRECGC’s website or directly by going to www.gowebgis.com/crecgc. The set of maps are received by the member via e-mail within 24 hours of request for $149.00 or within 48 hours of request for $135.00. If mapping needs exceed what is exclusive to the online form, GIS Dynamics staff can provide board members with customized quotations.
April 1, 2008 - City of Dayton - Department of Public Works
GPS data collection of over 20,000 street light locations utilizing ESRI’s GPS Analyst extension, ArcInfo, ArcSDE, ArcPad and Trimble GeoXH GPS units with sub-foot accuracy. The final deliverable was a newly created data layer of all street light locations in the City of Dayton corporation limits which is utilized for asset management, work order and service order repairs.
The Public Works Department for the City of Dayton is responsible for the physical maintenance of the city. The City of Dayton encompasses 56.4 square miles and has approximately 20,000 street lights within the city limits. The mapping of these lights has been done by aerial imagery, but has not been field verified.
GIS Dynamics was retained to update a Geodatabase with current and accurate locations, and attribute information. The information would be collected and verified via field investigations with GPS units. Services included the review of available City information, aerial imagery, and street light location information. GIS Dynamics utilized current City geodatabases and updated the geodatabase after conducting field investigations, records review, and creating features via digitizing within the ESRI software environment.
